Simon Schönhoff

Hi, I’m Simon. Landscape photographer with passion from near Heidelberg, Germany. Father of a bright little daughter and husband of a wonderful wife. Professionally, I work as a design engineer for optical medical devices at a company in Heidelberg, Germany. I like to use my free time for my two hobbies music and photography, both of which I approach intensively and with high professionalism.

With music I create the most unique moments possible, but they are short-lived and live on in people’s memories, with photography I capture moments that are fleeting and hold on to them. Both hobbies are very creative, in fact very similar and yet they differ in this particular whiteness.

I bought my first camera in 2013 and bit by bit discovered the passion for photography. Since then, I am rarely on the road without my camera equipment. At first I started exclusively with reportage and travel photography, but in recent years I have devoted myself more and more to landscape photography. I love and enjoy nature and therefore it is especially important to me to capture its beautiful landscapes with their wonderful fleeting moments on photos.

Besides my main focus on landscape photography, I am always open for new other projects. There are many more things to discover and I am ready to capture them in unique photos. I would be happy if you also discover some photos on my site that you like or read blog posts that give you motivation or ideas for your own photos.

My Style

The style reflected in my work is characterized by a rather documentary, complentative character. I record landscapes, nature and wilderness as I find them. Especially in nature, I leave every blade of grass, every leaf and every branch in the place where I discovered them and try, if possible, to eliminate unwanted elements in the image through the image composition. Only occasionally using Photoshop to remove parts of the image that are too distracting. My portfolio includes magnificent, breathtaking views or intimate scenes in nature with fascinating details, just as urban motifs, fascinating weather phenomena, which I use for my compositions and documentary shots on my travels.

I work almost exclusively with the available light of the environment, without direct influence. Therefore, I often use morning and evening hours for my photography and take advantage of the weather and season to take the photos in the light mood that seems to me the best for certain scenes and motifs. This requires planning, patience and a detailed look at the weather forecast, so that I am in the right place at the right time in fog, dawn or dusk, rain or storm.

So I always manage to record atmospheric scenes and fairy-tale, gladly also dreamy landscapes and represent nature as a jewel, which is worth protecting and guarding.

Since I practice photography as a hobby parallel to my job, I am in the everyday, mostly in the Rhine-Neckar region, Kraichgau, Southern Palatinate or Northern Black Forest on the road. However, I also like to travel to Switzerland, Austria, Italy and more distant countries like Iceland to take great pictures of our world.
