Cityscapes
Water games at the water tower
Twice a year there is a period when the sun sets pretty much exactly behind Mannheim’s water tower. If you are lucky enough to have such a beautiful evening glow at this time, you only have to wait for the lights of the water games to experience a wonderful ambience. At weekends, these fountains are colourfully illuminated. During the other days of the week, they are white.
Sunset over Hohenstein Castle
An idyllic little town with Hohenstein Castle towering high above was the starting point for this photograph. A great sunset announced itself as we drove to the spot. However, since the sky did not fit quite so harmoniously into the picture.
Semper Opera
It was quite a cool and windy evening when I took this photo. But the mood was still beautiful. This was also helped by the crows that constantly rose from the roof of the Semper Opera House. To get some of them on this picture, I had to work with several exposures and put them together afterwards.
Water castle
One of the sights of Hamburg is the moated castle in the Speicherstadt. Here taken on a cold winter evening in November. Due to the long exposure time, the water is beautifully even and smooth.
Composers’ Quarter
A scene that I saw every evening during my stay in Hamburg, on the way home. Then on the last evening I took it when it had rained a little before and the reflections of the lights on the cobblestones were perfect.
Dancing towers
The skyscrapers known as Dancing Towers stand at a busy intersection, directly at the entrance to the Reperabahn in St. Pauli, Hamburg. I have taken advantage of the busy street and the light streaks of passing cars as an effect into the picture.
Moritzburg Castle
It was so to speak imperial weather when I took this photo of Moritzburg Castle. Perfect I thought, then nothing suits the yellow of the castle better than the complementary color blue of the sky.
Mercati di Trajano
The picture shows the Forum of Trajan in Rome at night. The brightly lit backdrop of the overpleibsel from antiquity are a crowd puller at any time of day.
Colloseo Lights
On a beautiful summer evening in Rome, we went on a photowalk through the entire city center and photographed the many sights at night. For this photo with the Lightstripes were a few attempts and the right moment needed.
Evening at the old town of Alghero
Along the fortification wall around the old town of Alghero, there are a few ways to get the old town itself into the picture. I decided to compose on the old town wall itself, to use it as a leading line into the picture. Using a long exposure of a few seconds, I was able to block out the people walking by. The lighting mood itself did the rest.
Chapel Bridge
Known as the Chapel Bridge, the old wooden bridge in Lucerne is the city’s crowd puller. Burned down a few years ago, it has been completely rebuilt and some of the artwork inside has also been restored and preserved. To remove the many people, a long exposure of 50 sec. was used here.
Rapperswil-Jona
The beautifully situated town of Rapperswil-Jona on Lake Zurich offers a highly photographic backdrop. Especially on the promenade of the small harbor below the castle, many great photos can be taken, like this one.
Harpa
A real sight in Reyjkjavik is the Harpa concert hall, which stands in the city’s harbor and is particularly impressive in the evening, thanks to its ever-changing lighting. In this picture, the facade changes from red to yellow.
