\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tWhat was I thin\u00adking? I quickly disco\u00advered this small pond near our accom\u00admo\u00adda\u00adtion, but how do you get here? There doesn\u2019t seem to be a path, at least not on any hiking map. Various map and outdoor apps don\u2019t show anything either. And yet I\u2019m now walking through the dark\u00adness. Google Maps has often let me down when it comes to navi\u00adga\u00adting to a more remote loca\u00adtion. All the stan\u00addard spots that have already been photo\u00adgra\u00adphed by God and the world can also be found by the Google service, but when it comes to places that are less well-known or further away from civi\u00adliza\u00adtion, it some\u00adtimes brings you to a dead end. As an example, I once wanted to go to a viewing rock that was easy to hike to from one side. From the other side, steep walls went up verti\u00adcally. Google navi\u00adgated me safely to the foot of the cliff and said only 100m from here. Well, only hori\u00adzon\u00adtally\u2026 but unfort\u00adu\u00adna\u00adtely 300m verti\u00adcally uphill. Unfort\u00adu\u00adna\u00adtely, I\u2019m not that kind of moun\u00adtai\u00adneer. Some\u00adtimes, however, Google Maps had paths on its maps that simply didn\u2019t exist. But for this spot, which I wanted to head for this morning, it had no solu\u00adtion at all. Nor any images in Google Earth, Street View or similar.<\/p>

But there must be some\u00adthing there, you can see from the satel\u00adlite images that there is photo\u00adgra\u00adphic poten\u00adtial here. For some time now, I\u2019ve also been using other apps and services to scout loca\u00adtions. One of these is Komoot. So the evening before, I opened the outdoor navi\u00adga\u00adtion app and zoomed into the area where I had disco\u00advered this pond. It was some\u00adwhat exposed in the middle of a dense forest, or so it seemed. However, Komoot hadn\u2019t plotted a route to my desti\u00adna\u00adtion either, but suggested heading towards the back of the forest from my starting point. I zoomed in a little closer to be able to reco\u00adgnize some\u00adthing in the satel\u00adlite images. Then Koomoot suddenly shows me a picture. Aha! I open the picture and see a cell phone snapshot of a crooked foot\u00adbridge in front of a pond. There you go. You get there, other\u00adwise there wouldn\u2019t be a picture. <\/p>

I read the caption of the picture: \u201cThe forbidden pond\u201d. Okay. In the worst-case scenario, it could happen that the path there is closed. Whether I break the law for the photo is up to me. I wouldn\u2019t do it just to take a photo. I also don\u2019t fly a drone if it\u2019s expli\u00adcitly not allowed. That\u2019s just the way I am. I respect laws and regu\u00adla\u00adtions and still come home with successful pictures and satis\u00adfac\u00adtion. There\u2019s always the option of taking pictures in the fog in the forest. At least accor\u00adding to the weather fore\u00adcast. I close the apps, adjust my clothes and photo back\u00adpack and go to sleep. <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Spooky atmo\u00adsphere on the last few meters<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

I take into account the uncer\u00adtainty of the route and set off a little earlier. It\u2019s still pitch black, but the fog is all around me. The foggy atmo\u00adsphere is just right for the \u201cspooky\u201d pond I\u2019m heading for. It gets really dark when I enter the forest. I am surrounded by an asto\u00adnis\u00adhing silence. It seems as if nature and the animal world are still asleep. Only my foot\u00ads\u00adteps can be heard as I make my way deeper into the forest on the gravel paths. The route actually turns out to be a little longer than expected. <\/p>

I could see great compo\u00adsi\u00adtions ever\u00ady\u00adwhere and trees to the left and right, which I could take later on the way home if there was still a bit of fog. Inte\u00adres\u00adting details, such as mush\u00adrooms, could also make for some nice shots, I thought to myself and walked on. Then I reached the point where the trail turns right into the forest and then conti\u00adnues straight on towards the pond. Inci\u00adden\u00adtally, Maps stopped suggesting a route at this point. Komoot, however, navi\u00adgated me a few hundred meters deeper into the forest. <\/p>

Here the forest took on an incre\u00adasingly spooky atmo\u00adsphere. For the first few meters, the path was still clearly visible. Appar\u00adently used as a wooden path, it became narrower meter by meter until it became a small, slightly trodden path. So there are always visi\u00adtors, or even hikers, who get lost here. The forest thinned out, but the path became less and less reco\u00adgnizable as a path and the sound of wading under my feet became louder. I was on moor\u00adland, or at least some\u00adthing like it. The rain of the last few days and the general damp\u00adness of this place made for wet shoes. The water\u00adpro\u00adofing will show whether my feet will stay dry. <\/p>

I actually reach the pond, or at least I can already see it. However, there is one last hurdle to over\u00adcome. A small bridge, crooked, old, partly rotten and extre\u00admely slip\u00adpery, despite the tread of my hiking boots. I put my camera in my ruck\u00adsack and carefully creep over it. I notice how the wood creaks. Every step with care, as the wood is incre\u00addibly slip\u00adpery, one last hop. Done. <\/p>

From here, the last few meters are over wooden planks that lie on the ground or parti\u00adally sink in. Every single one of them is as slip\u00adpery as the worst black ice. With every step over these planks, I realize how lucky I was not to have slipped off the bridge. But I have made it. I have found the pond. <\/p>

The first few minutes were all about looking around, soaking up the surroun\u00addings. What makes this place special? What is worth photo\u00adgra\u00adphing? How can I photo\u00adgraph it to capture the character of the place in my pictures? These ques\u00adtions help you to find the photo that best repres\u00adents a place.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Now that the picture ideas have been agreed with myself, I start to posi\u00adtion the camera roughly in my hand. Just like in the forest, a few centi\u00adme\u00adters make a big diffe\u00adrence. In the vlog, as well as in the gallery below, I have included various attempts so that you can compare them. A lower posi\u00adtio\u00adning empha\u00adsizes the fore\u00adground more, a higher posi\u00adtio\u00adning shows more of the pond. I tried to avoid too much sky, which was unfort\u00adu\u00adna\u00adtely only white due to the fog, in the pictures, or at least to use only the neces\u00adsary amount for a nice picture composition.<\/p>

Once I know roughly where the camera should be posi\u00adtioned, I take the tripod and deter\u00admine the final compo\u00adsi\u00adtion. Minimal changes are of course not excluded. Then I take the picture. It has to be said that there was actually very little space to posi\u00adtion myself and the camera. <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

When the pictures were taken, I wanted to take the oppor\u00adtu\u00adnity to find some fog in the forest to take some pictures. But unfort\u00adu\u00adna\u00adtely the fog had receded from the forest. I could only find fog at the edges of the forest. But I kept my eyes open on the way home and even managed to get a nice shot of an inte\u00adres\u00adting mushroom. <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
