\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tWhat do you do on a Sunday morning at 6 a.m. in summer? Right, you\u2019re stan\u00adding deep in the forest in the pouring rain. Instead of wrap\u00adping myself up in my comforter again, the rain is drip\u00adping off my camera and nose. But I don\u2019t want to moan, I chose this fate myself. Okay, I admit it, it didn\u2019t quite go as planned. I had chosen a slightly higher area of forest for this morning and hoped I could stand in the clouds. It\u2019s often the case in this loca\u00adtion that the clouds are over\u00adcast and it\u2019s not unusual to find perfect condi\u00adtions for forest photo\u00adgraphy. But it seemed that the clouds always managed to get a little higher today and were able to rain down on my neck. <\/p>

But the rain still creates a wonderful atmo\u00adsphere and mood in the forest, which is in no way infe\u00adrior to the fog. On the contrary, as soon as it stops raining, it is usually misty and foggy again, so that atmo\u00adspheric forest pictures can be created without end. <\/p>

As I didn\u2019t know the forest I was visi\u00adting for this VLOG, I wanted to use the time before the light came through a little better to get to know the loca\u00adtion. That means I walk around most of it first and explore what catches my eye. I take some pictures straight away. Espe\u00adci\u00adally if they are really special. But I don\u2019t imme\u00addia\u00adtely get lost in the minu\u00adtiae. However, I save some scenes in the back of my mind for later. With a comple\u00adtely unknown loca\u00adtion, the best shot can easily slip through your fingers. <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Tips for taking photos in the rainy forest<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

In addi\u00adtion to the focus and depth of field of your image, also keep an eye on the expo\u00adsure time. Leaves some\u00adtimes tend to move. Espe\u00adci\u00adally during the tran\u00adsi\u00adtion from night to day, or when rain\u00addrops fall on them. If you want to avoid this motion blur, you will inevi\u00adtably have to increase the ISO. So ask yourself what is worth more to you, a sharp photo or a little more noise in the picture?<\/p>

Espe\u00adci\u00adally if the fog is very thick, in some cases you don\u2019t have to stop down too much, as the sharp\u00adness in the back\u00adground is not 100% due to the fog. A slightly shal\u00adlower depth of field with the focus on the main subject is ther\u00ade\u00adfore suffi\u00adcient. This gives you a slightly wider aper\u00adture, shorter expo\u00adsure time and possibly a lower ISO. However, be sure to check each image on the camera to see whether the depth of field is suffi\u00adcient or not.<\/p>

Nowa\u00addays, most cameras and lenses can with\u00adstand a little rain without any problems. If it does get too heavy, there are various ways of dealing with the rain. I have already written an article about this. Get rain covers for your ruck\u00adsack and camera, or use some\u00adthing like hoods or umbrellas if you\u2019re plan\u00adning to take photos in the pouring rain. But if you\u2019re out in the rain for a few minutes, the rain shouldn\u2019t matter. <\/p>

In any case, avoid chan\u00adging the lens, or shield the camera and lenses well against the drops. If possible, mois\u00adture should not get inside the camera. <\/p>

If the rain gets too heavy, don\u2019t be afraid to break off or take shelter until it gets a little better. <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

What am I looking for in the forest<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Gene\u00adrally spea\u00adking, large trees or trees full of character offer better oppor\u00adtu\u00adni\u00adties for a good compo\u00adsi\u00adtion. Even lighter areas in the forest can give the light some direc\u00adtion that can be used in the picture. So always observe the light and its effect. <\/p>

If trees are further apart and the ground and shrub growth is some\u00adwhat limited, you can create more mini\u00adma\u00adlist shots. If the ground is over\u00adgrown throug\u00adhout, this can make a beau\u00adtiful fore\u00adground. Ferns also make great fore\u00adgrounds. Roots and moss are also great foregrounds. <\/p>

If the ground is boring or pure chaos, I like to use longer focal lengths and pick out details or more inti\u00admate scenes from the land\u00adscape. Photo\u00adgra\u00adphic vision helps for all these things and you have to prac\u00adtise, prac\u00adtise, practise.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

How do I proceed with image composition<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Once I have disco\u00advered a special fore\u00adground with a suitable oppo\u00adnent or a special motif, the next step is to find a suitable compo\u00adsi\u00adtion. If you take wide-angle photos, you can use your cell phone to try out the best camera posi\u00adtion. If you have a flip-up display on the camera, you can also \u201ctry it out\u201d from your hand. In general, you should manage without a tripod for the first few moments. Once you have found the best compo\u00adsi\u00adtion, use the tripod for perfect pictures.<\/p>

Pay atten\u00adtion to every detail in the final compo\u00adsi\u00adtion. If possible, there should be a nice sepa\u00adra\u00adtion between indi\u00advi\u00addual trees. The fog natu\u00adrally helps here and is not only good for the depth effect in the picture. In the forest, centi\u00adme\u00adters can be decisive. So take your time with the picture and the final shot. Be a perfec\u00adtionist! This will affect your final result.<\/p>

Be aware that a low camera posi\u00adtion can reduce the size of the middle ground or make other elements disap\u00adpear. A higher point of view makes sense if you want to take photos above the ground or if you want to show off the ground vegetation. <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
