The summer is simply sh\u2026 shitty for land\u00adscape photo\u00adgraphers. It feels like the alarm clock goes off far too early. Even at a spot quite close to my home town, such as Steins\u00adberg Castle in Sins\u00adheim, you have to get up more or less in the middle of the night around the solstice in order to be there well before sunrise. <\/p>

So I peel myself out of bed. Just don\u2019t make any unneces\u00adsary noises now. If I wake my daughter now, my plan will be over before it has even begun. Somehow I manage to steal out of the house without waking my ladies, so I\u2019m ready to go. <\/p>

Even on the drive to Steins\u00adberg Castle, I occa\u00adsio\u00adnally look up at the sky. The clouds are not bad. Maybe there\u2019ll be some fog in the surroun\u00adding plains as well as the dawn. That would be bril\u00adliant. After a few minutes\u2019 drive, I head for the parking lot. Some of the clouds are still there. Maybe it will work. <\/p>

I look around for a suitable take-off and landing site for my drone. I quickly realize that if the sun doesn\u2019t hurry up soon, the clouds will be too far above the castle and I won\u2019t be able to get a picture of them. I launch the drone to have a look around and see where the sun will rise and so on. <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Steins\u00adberg Castle can be photo\u00adgra\u00adphed from all direc\u00adtions. It is slightly elevated on a hill and can also be easily seen from a distance. It can be photo\u00adgra\u00adphed from the surroun\u00adding villages and hills using the light to strong tele\u00adphoto range, or from close up with a drone. Wide-angle shots from close to the ground are less suitable. <\/p>

The village of Weiler is located towards the sunset, i.e. to the west. If you are disturbed by the presence of houses in the village in the pictures, you should concen\u00adtrate on the sunrise. To the east, there are almost exclu\u00adsi\u00advely fields, meadows and small woods nearby. The castle itself does not have a parti\u00adcu\u00adlarly photo\u00adgenic side, so anything is possible. Morning, evening, summer or winter doesn\u2019t matter. <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Advan\u00adtages and disad\u00advan\u00adtages of a drone<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

I flew a first round with my drone. For me, a recon\u00adnais\u00adsance flight like this not only serves to record the first video sequences and images, but also to look out for subjects, get my bearings and analyze the direc\u00adtion and effect of the light on the subject. <\/span><\/p>

Die Vorteile der Drohne liegen also ganz klar auf der Hand. Ein ganz substan\u00adzi\u00adeller ist, dass man deut\u00adlich schneller eine Umge\u00adbung erkunden kann, als man dies per Fu<\/span>\u00df<\/span> k<\/span>\u00f6<\/span>nnte. Man kann also schnell von A nach B fliegen und schauen, ob das Licht in Rich\u00adtung C oder D besser ist. Aber auch die ge<\/span>\u00e4<\/span>nderte Perspek\u00adtive, von etwas weiter oben, oder manchmal auch Top-Down erm<\/span>\u00f6<\/span>glicht uns Fotos aufzu\u00adnehmen, die wir so herk<\/span>\u00f6<\/span>mmlich niemals aufnehmen k<\/span>\u00f6<\/span>nnten, was immer wieder f\u00fcr einen Aha-Effekt sorgen kann.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>

Nicht nur das Fliegen als solches macht also Spa<\/span>\u00df<\/span>, sondern auf das Filmen und Foto\u00adgra\u00adfieren mit ihr. Und so manches Motiv habe ich schon durch sie entdeckt, die ich dann mit ihr, oder auch mit der Kamera noch aufge\u00adnommen habe.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Aber vergli\u00adchen mit einer DSLM hat sie auch einige Nach\u00adteile. Allen voran der kleine Sensor. Man bekommt zwar mitt\u00adler\u00adweile fast die gleic<\/span>he oder eine zumin\u00addest ann<\/span>\u00e4<\/span>hernd so gro<\/span>\u00df<\/span>e Pixel\u00adan\u00adzahl wie bei einer Kamera auf den Sensor, doch dadurch entsteht ein Problem:  Das hohe Rauschen bei wenig Licht und der deut\u00adlich gerin\u00adgere Dyna\u00admik\u00adbe\u00adreich. Aber f<\/span>\u00fc<\/span>r beides gibt es L<\/span>\u00f6<\/span>sungen.<\/span> Es gibt nur bei der Aufnahme vor Ort schon ein paar Dinge zu beachten. <\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Important do\u2019s when photo\u00adgra\u00adphing with a drone<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

It is ther\u00ade\u00adfore important for you to analyze the scene on loca\u00adtion and pay atten\u00adtion to the histo\u00adgram. If you have a high tonal value spread, i.e. many bright and dark areas, then you cannot avoid an HDR shot, i.e. a series of expo\u00adsures. This can usually be created with just one click. Make use of what you have available. If you can take 5 pictures at once, then go for it. <\/p>

If you have a scene in low light, i.e. if you are flying into the twilight, you may have to deal with a higher ISO and signi\u00adfi\u00adcantly more noise. Here it helps to create a series of shots. As the noise of the sensor varies from shot to shot, Photo\u00adshop can remove the noise afterwards. <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

What needs to be considered during processing<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

You can easily create HDRs in Ligh\u00adt\u00adroom. You can see exactly how to do this in the video below. To do this, select all the images in your expo\u00adsure bracket, right-click on one of the images, go to \u201cMerge photos\u201d and select \u201cHDR\u201d. Alter\u00adna\u00adtively, you can also use the shortcut Ctrl+H.<\/p>

In the dialog that opens, you can also select the strength of the ghost effect removal. This is useful if you have image elements that have moved between the two shots. Once the HDR has been created, you can edit it as usual in Lightroom.<\/p>

The proce\u00addure for taking a series of photos to reduce high levels of noise is slightly diffe\u00adrent. The best way to do this is to first make your basic settings in Ligh\u00adt\u00adroom and synchro\u00adnize the settings for all photos in the series. Then select all the photos in the series, right-click on one of the images and select \u201cEdit in\u2026\u201d and \u201cOpen as layers in Photo\u00adshop\u201d. Make sure that the images are perfectly aligned. If not, go to \u201cEdit\u201d in Photo\u00adshop and select \u201cAuto Align Layers\u201d. Then convert the layers into a Smart Object. Via \u201cLayers\u201d, \u201cBatch mode\u201d you can then select \u201cAverage\u201d and the noise should be signi\u00adfi\u00adcantly reduced.<\/p>

If there is little noise either way, as in my pictures of Steins\u00adberg Castle, then this method is super\u00adfluous. In this case, you can also use the \u201cDenoise\u201d method under \u201cDetails\u201d in develop mode. This does a perfect job in most cases. With these methods, you can achieve sensa\u00adtional images at a very high quality level, even with drones with small sensors. <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
