\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tDa stehe ich nun. Trief\u00adnass. Mitten\u00addrin im peit\u00adschenden, eisig\u00adkalten Wind. Einige Meter \u00fcber dem Sand\u00adstrand vor den D\u00fcnen bei Wenning\u00adstedt auf einem Holz\u00adsteg. Hier bin ich etwas gesch\u00fctzt vor dem Wind, trotzdem bl\u00e4st er uner\u00adbitt\u00adlich. Ein wenig \u00fcber\u00adrascht bin ich. Dar\u00fcber, wie schnell bei ange\u00adk\u00fcn\u00addigtem orkan\u00adar\u00adtigem Sturm die Regen\u00adf\u00e4lle \u00fcber das Meer brausen und das Land errei\u00adchen. Flucht ausge\u00adschlossen. Ich muss sie hinnehmen. Alles f\u00fcr den einen Moment. <\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

I already have the first picture in the box. A wonderful shot of the typical wooden jetty on Sylt in the dunes. With great cloud struc\u00adtures, which are created thanks to the storm and also change within seconds. <\/p>

I had seen the rain coming over the sea. It\u2019s still a few kilo\u00adme\u00adtres away, so go ahead and take some pictures. Trying out compo\u00adsi\u00adtions. Then it pelted down on my jacket. Seconds later, it felt like the rain was coming from all sides. The only thing I could do was look for a shel\u00adtered spot and wait. 5 minutes later, the rain was over. But the wind was blowing harder. At least it dried my clothes again quickly. <\/p>

The adver\u00adsi\u00adties that such a storm brings with it must be accepted in land\u00adscape photo\u00adgraphy, because there are just as many possi\u00adbi\u00adli\u00adties in such situa\u00adtions. Constantly chan\u00adging light condi\u00adtions, brea\u00adking clouds that let light through, dramatic cloud struc\u00adtures that leave an impres\u00adsive impres\u00adsion on pictures, moody rain atmo\u00adspheres and possibly rain\u00adbows, to name just a few. Ever\u00ady\u00adthing that can make a picture look special. <\/p>

I walked between the dunes. On the paths, of course. On the horizon, I could see the next rain cell approa\u00adching. I quickly had to find some kind of fore\u00adground that wasn\u2019t too disturbed. But it also had to be some\u00adwhat aesthetic. Photo\u00adgra\u00adphing a fore\u00adground just to have a fore\u00adground doesn\u2019t make sense either. The picture might end up hanging on my wall. If I spend ages thin\u00adking about the fore\u00adground, that I could have left it out, then I would replace the picture after a few weeks at the latest. <\/p>

Then the sky opened up behind me. The storm blew the clouds aside and let the sun through. The rainbow appeared directly in front of me over the North Sea. It grew quickly. I took a test shot and found a compo\u00adsi\u00adtion that offered a little more. A quick shot. But the rainbow continued to grow until it was complete. <\/p>

I threw the ruck\u00adsack on the floor. The 24 mm that my lens gives on the camera is not enough. I need my 16\u201335 and the first drops landed on my face. I changed the lens as quickly as I could. Went into posi\u00adtion. 16mm. Camera settings fit. I pressed the shutter release. Then the rain came down on me. I had one shot and this is the result:<\/p>

Wow. I thought. Adre\u00adnalin shot through my body, but I had kept calm enough to capture this brief moment. A few minutes later, when the down\u00adpour was over, I was able to see on the camera that it had worked. Expe\u00adri\u00adence and a certain routine in hand\u00adling my own equip\u00adment were the key at this moment. Making settings, finding the compo\u00adsi\u00adtion, setting the focus in frac\u00adtions of a second. Blindly finding your way around the camera. That\u2019s what makes pictures like this.<\/p>

Which camera or which lens was used is of secon\u00addary importance. The photo\u00adgrapher takes the picture. The camera and lens are just the tools. Just as the pot and the cooker are the tools of the master chef. Nobody would think to ask which pot they used when enjoying their meal, would they?<\/p>

Unfort\u00adu\u00adna\u00adtely, it was the only complete rainbow that morning. Later, I was able to photo\u00adgraph another rainbow over the Red Cliff near Kampen, a double one in fact, which appeared just at the right moment as I was stan\u00adding on the sandy beach below. But there were other things that I thought were worth photo\u00adgra\u00adphing.
